The Lantern Theatre is versatile and flexible performance space in the heart of Brighton, Sussex. The theatre is available for hire throughout the year, dependent on availability and the approval of the Artistic Director. Accepted genres of performance include: plays, musical theatre, opera, comedy performances, showcases, performance art, private and corporate functions, rehearsed readings as well as cabarets, concerts and soirees.
The theatre has a maximum seated capacity of 50 theatre style and 70 standing. There are two entrances to the space and the performance area can be arranged in a variety of configurations from traverse to in the round. The theatre is equiped with a lighting rig and sound system (see technical specifications) and there is a dressing room and Bar.
The Theatre is located at ACT Brighton and has it's own entrance via the Frank Finlay Bar at 77 St James's Street, BN2 1PA.
The Frank Finlay Bar
The Finlay Bar is a unique place to have a pre, interval or post-show drink. Tea, coffee and soft drinks are available, alongside our carefully curated wine & beer menu.
The Bar is named after our patron Frank Finlay CBE who was a resident in Kemptown for many years.
The bar is theatrically themed and has posters and photographs from Frank's many productions
Lantern Arts Hub - Daytime Classes
The Lantern Theatre and ACT Brighton received funding from the Department for Culture and Health to create The Lantern Arts Hub and run a programme of daytime performing arts classes.
We are bringing our many years of expertise running professional actor training classes and courses to the Brighton community. These classes are open to the local community especially those who are in marginalised groups.
