Set in the fictional American small town of Grover's Corners, Our Town tells the story of an average town's citizens in the early twentieth century as depicted through their everyday lives. Scenes from the town's history between the years of 1901 and 1913 are performed in three acts - Daily Life, Love and Marriage and Death and Dying.

This poignant, touching and heartfelt jewel of a play tells a timeless tale that everyone can relate to. Imaginatively staged and directed by Julian Kerridge, this is a must-see opportunity to enjoy this classic American tale.

Our Town was first performed at McCarter Theater in Princeton, New Jersey on January 22, 1938. It later went on to success on Broadway and won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

This show was part of history. Mostly because the Academy of Creative Training opened its doors to the public for the first time as a properly licensed performance venue, and what a venue it is! The fact that despite it being an intimate space, it is extremely adaptable, as well as being made to feel the space is larger than it is.

This contributed well to the play Our Town by Thornton Wilder, as every single one of us were made to feel part of the action as soon as you entered the space. It followed a band of players representing a small town through three different stages - School, Marriage and Death. Whilst at times the writing felt a little stilted and abrupt, the foundation students did a great job in pulling this very difficult piece off.

However, it is to be noted that whilst the standard of acting was of mixed levels and there were some weak links in the cast, the enthusiasm and dedication that shone through was heartwarming, and one could tell that they were an extremely tight unit. By not having this, Our Town could easily have failed as a piece.

There were some outstanding highlights though which included Alex Canwell and Lexi Anthony as the cutest stage couple ever seen - George and Emily Gibbs, Phill Rees as the long standing officer of the law Constable Warren and not forgetting the formidable trio of stage managers Dune Delmondo, Charlotte Miller and Amy Eddisford-Kidd.

This foundation year should be extremely proud of what they have achieved and we here at Remotegoat wish them the very best for their future careers.
